PETA is a mainstream organization with millions of Jane and John Doe supporters. Your slur of “seem like a bunch of hippie lunatics” is silly.
This is an organization which fights for the ethical treatment of animals. What reasonable person could object to that?
Maybe YOU are the lunatic. Kick your dog much?

They are a non-profit organization. They make money through donations and selling merchandise such as t-shirts, bumberstickers, etc.
There are a lot of celebraties and people with significant wealth who support PETA as well. PETA is extremely well funded, and you shouldn’t dismiss their membership as a bunch of poor hippies…..although their members are all lunitics, I’ll give you that

People foolishly give them money thinking that PETA helps animals.
The opposite is right.

Far too many contributions from people like Glenda who are ill informed about what many of their members partake in or unaware of their ties of the Animal Liberation Front (“Test an anti-cancer drug on a rat? To a fantastic degree firebomb your house.”).

There are a lot of not very gifted, gullible celebrities that like to give money to “causes.” Look at Jenny McCarthy ranting on about how terrible vaccines are, or the success of Scientology. Making celebrities feel like they’re special is a excellent way to raise lots and lots of cash.

Because they get donations to ‘help the animals’ by people who don’t realize that PeTA doesn’t even own a animal shelter and that they place down more animals than they save.
As in 2009
2366 animals were brought in
31 were transferred out
8 were adopted out
and the remaining 2,301 were ruined.
With the HSUS and PETA combined annual budgets of over $124 million for political and lobbying hard work to take away our rights to own animals. And that figure does not include the many splinter organizations that have been formed from these two major organizations. We are in an climbing battle now, and it will be the fight of our lives to keep our rights to own pets.
They are going at it from many different angles. One way is to get Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) passed. The banning of Pit-Bulls all over the country is a excellent example. That has caught on like wildfires. The animal rights groups have said if they can just get one breed banned, then it will be simple to add others to it at a later date, until eventually all breeds are banned. Another way that they are going about it is to have a mandatory spay and neuter law in place.
Add: Oh yeah, and they’re non profit.
